Titanic Centenary Saturday 14th April 2012

In 2012 we commemorate the centenary of the Titanic disaster. A ship built in Belfast, and of special significance to the city.
Built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, N. Ireland, and having successfully completed her sea trials on 2nd April 2012, the Titanic sailed from Belfast to Southampton. When Titanic finally set out for New York on the 10th April, there were 2,240 people aboard. On 14th April in mid Atlantic, during its maiden voyage, the liner struck an iceberg and sank.
Tragically some 1,200 passengers and crew lost their lives in the disaster.

Three Masonic Lodges in Belfast: Tower of Lebanon Lodge 169, The Belfast Lodge 651, and Sir George Clark Memorial Lodge 669 have joined forces, to commemorate the Titanic Centenary event, and raise funds for Masonic Charity.

Saturday 14th April 2012

(In modern usage, a céilidh or ceilidh (English pronunciation: /'ke?l?/) is a traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing. It originated in Ireland, but is now common throughout the Irish and Scottish diasporas. In Scottish Gaelic it is spelled cèilidh (Scottish Gaelic pronunciation: ['k??e?li]) and in Irish it is spelled céilí (Irish pronunciation: ['ce?l?i?]).wikipedia)

"Spirit of Belfast" sculpture in front of Freemasons' Hall

The Spirit of Belfast is a public art sculpture by Dan George in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The sculture is designed to reflect the texture and lightness of linen, while the metal reflects the strength and beauty of shipbuilding, two important aspects of Belfast's history. Unveiled on 25 September 2009, the sculpture is located on Arthur Square, in front off Freemasons' Hall, and close to the main point of access to Victoria Square shopping centre. The sculpture is constructed of steel and cost £200,000.
As with other public works of art in Ireland the sculpture has been given a nickname, the "Onion Rings".
